Rock Shear
While getting some B&W prints ready for a show, I’d take a break and work on this. Some of my favorite rocks are at Dry Lagoon here in Humboldt County.
Salmon River Rapids
With the threat of thunderstorms approaching, we worked our way up the Salmon River canyon from Soames Bar to Forks of Salmon. The precipitous one lane road high above the river presented us with exciting encounters of trucks on blind turns. This image is a good representation of our journey.

Sadly, the lumber business dried up in Korbel.

Beautiful Day On Bald Hills Road
Did a nice 140 mile loop up to Orick, over to Weitchpec, lunch in Willow Creek, then home. We left at 7am. Started photographing at 8. Shot this at 9:46 (thank you EXIF data) with a 3rd hand Sony A7 and Canon 24-105 lens.
The color work on the image was accomplished with Flypaper textures, hue shifts, and lots of mask work.
Serenity & Chaos on the East Fork
Two spots on the East Fork of Willow Creek within a spit and a holler of one other. Also, 1.3 seconds versus 0.0025 seconds.
Helena Chimney
Since I mentioned this in the last post, I better show it.
“Jess, I Love Us”
Pam and I went shooting this week at Helena and French Creek.
Wikipedia describes Helena, “Helena is located on the North Fork of the Trinity River 10 miles (16 km) west-northwest of Weaverville. The community was settled in 1851 as a mining camp. It was known as Bagdad, North Fork, and The Cove before its post office opened in 1891; the post office was named Helena after the postmaster’s wife.”
Several abandoned buildings, a two story freestanding chimney, and a lovely day. What more could anyone want.
Friday Night on 101 in Eureka
A subset of the Redwood Camera Club went out for a night shoot Friday and braved high 40’s weather. Pam and I went the length of Opera Alley. Then I ventured over to 101 (4th St) to shoot this using a neutral density filter. This was a 25 second exposure.
