I shot this photo from a cliff above a river on a friend’s finca in Costa Rica. We were admonished not to go down to the river as there were many caymans there. Picture was shot with Fuji Reala film as was the previous post’s image.
There was a good reason why our friends loaned us there new Great Wall pickup and said, “Have fun.” They didn’t want to go up this road again. The Mayans must have built it. The road was “paved” with what looked like monster cobblestones that felt like they would shake the truck apart at anything over 10mph. It was definitely worth the ride up. Didn’t feel like it on the ride down. The rain forest was beautiful, lots of hummingbirds, and saw a couple of coatimundis.
While scouting locations for an upcoming shoot, I found this. As I processed the images, I kept coming back to this one.
What do you think, color or sepia? Why?
This is a recently reworked image from five years ago. Earlier this year, I decided to go back to the grove and reshoot it. Couldn’t find it.
An apparently simple image. When I was teaching, I’d ask students if a pencil was simple. After the overwhelming positive reply, I’d ask them to make one. Lots going on here.
Wonderful day at Dry Lagoon. The fog held right at the treetops.
This is a steam engine of the train called The Daylight. I rode this train from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It’s in for service at the Railway Heritage Museum in Portland, Oregon.
I have two shows that I’m entering in the next few days. I had no problem figuring out what to enter. But, I also have to put new work in the Sewell Gallery in Eureka. I’ve been working on my bare bulb flash skills for some ideas I have for the gallery. In the meantime, I’m going to be showing stream bed images. Here’s one of them.
I was curious how redoing this image from five years ago would change with my current workflow. Different. Crisper. Smoother. Cleaner. Interesting.
